Windows Movie Maker error

Hey, I’m using Win Movie Maker and I can’t seem to encode my avi or mpeg files to turn them to wmv. I can edit fine but when I start the encoding the program makes an illegal operation and shuts down.

Same goes for Video Edit Magic and other programs. Is this a codec related issue? I have several codecs installed, mostly all the new ones but I still have this problem...
