I downloaded many avi files and wanted to store them on a dvd so I could get them off my hard drive since they use alot of space. I’m NOT wanting to burn them on a dvd for dvd playback, so this isn’t a question about converting the files. I’m just using the dvd strictly for data storage. The files played fine before I burnt them on the dvd. However, after I burnt them using Nero and try to read the files off the dvd, they won’t work. I tried copying the files from the dvd back onto my desktop and they still won’t work. Windows media player says that it is an unsupported format now. I can’t figure out what the problem is. Is there a special trick to storing avi files on a dvd data disc? Hope someone can help me out with this problem.

The easy way is with Roxio Easy media Creator 7 or 7.5. Drag to disc is doing this for you.Works exactly like a floppy and you can save a lot of hard drive space.Nero has a Back-up files on the menu so choose dvd and start saving. Also any back-up software you may have is doing this job just choose data on dvd.

I’ve tried using windows as well and that doesn’t work either. I can’t figure out why the files won’t read anymore if you’re just making a data disc.
