Daantje Guest | Perhaps this is a question for another thread, but it’s quite a big problem for me and it’s certainly related.
I downloaded a movie file that is corrupt just like the Star Wars .avi you’re discussing, only a different movie (The Island). Same problems, can’t delete the file, when trying to open it consumes all system resources, etc. etc.
I finally managed to delete it using the 'end explorer task and delete in command prompt' trick. However, the WHOLE directory in which this file was is completely empty. There were like 100 files in there before; all gone without a trace.
Only thing I have for scanning a disk is chkdsk which I used, with no result. Does anyone recognise this problem?

Kisser the Music Man Guest | I also found a simple way with which to deal with this file: I created a new folder, moved the file to it, then deleted that folder normally. This prevented the file from ever being “activated”, so to speak, and worked like a charm. This after hours of more complicated procedures that failed...........LoL!

Mattias Guest | A simple way to delete this file is to go to processes and end “Explorer.exe”. After that go to New task under Applications. and insted of running a new task. fine the file you want to delet, and right click on and deceid to delete the file. after that close.
New task, and write explorer. and you have a fresh explorer running. and your file is gone.

Kanedmick Guest | Only thing that worked was the Gipo programme! It doesn’t take long to do and I had spent all morning trying tru safe mode and all other stuff to delete it - u name it I did it.
Forget cmd line and all the other stuff.
First time I came across a file like this and I definitely will be keeping Gipo in case of future occurances. I downloaded this piece of sh*t tru limewire and neither it nor any spyware nor virus guard picked it up.
Who wastes their time on making this sh*t! Get a life!!
