Trouble with avi codecs and video inspector

I recently downloaded a file from ares using P2P. it said that in the comments that i would need downloadsome codecs to play ... however i didnt know which codecs to download so i used both avi codecs and video inspector on it and everytime i load the file ... both programs freeze and wont respond. Now i know its not my cpu cuz its brand new with a 3.4 Gz pentium 4. What should i do too resolve my issue. cuz im really looking forward to watching this flick

oh and also when i open the fil with windows media player or the ares player i get that the file is corrupted/ or media player does not support the file.. and the file is an avi.

okay i got video inspector to work .. i downloaded the specific codec Divx 5 however it says the movie is not complete. and when i try to play it through windows media 9 it says the file is corrupt/ and or is not supported by windows media 9 and the divx player just freezes someone please help me.

Seems like a Xvid file.Have you install any DivX player on your computer? GSpot is doing the same job like The Inspector why don’t you try it? Link for GSpot: http://www.headbands.com/gspot/ and link for one Xvid player : http://www.xvid.org/downloads.html .
