All avi's stopped playing

Recently anytime I try to play any avi file it opens the media player then the window pops up that says “windows has encountered a problem and needs to close” it does this when i got to any website that plays video to. All the avi files I own will not play and I have no idea why. I did a virus scan and nothing popped up. Please someone help!

Have you try another player?If is just WMP reinstall it. Do you have any spyware remover like Ad Aware or SpyBot? If you do and ran it recently some of your codecs have to be reinstall.It’s good to have a TuneUp Utilities to clean the computer from time to time.Use Google to find a link.If you have a XP try a restore point prior when the problem started.
