video errors windows xp

When I try to play some video files (.avi) wmp10, media player classic, winamp, and any other video player I’ve tried does not even play it. I opened up the file with gspot and it says I have all the codecs I need. I have no idea what is wrong and I know these files are not corrupt because I can play them on another computer. In WMP it simply says “Playing” but I do not hear sound and I do not see any video, the timer does not even progress. Similar situations with all the other players I’ve tried.
