Sparks Guest | I have a VIDEO FILE that is 4Gb, has a .avi tag but is not recognised by anything. G-Spot says it’s not an avi, AVICodec says it’s smaller than 1kb. How do I find what it really is if it’s not an avi?

Where’d you download it from?
Does it play in VideoLAN (www.videolan.org)?

Sparks Guest | It won’t play in VideoLAN and the FourCC comes up as a blank in avichanger. I’v tried putting in one of the other values (mp2,3,4,div) and it still won’t play. The file was recorded from a webcam as an avi file using motion detection software from VintaSoft. Does the lack of FourCC mean it’s not playable?

I came across a file a couple of years back I could hear audio but there was no video.
The hex editor in virtualdub showen no FourCC which I could identify only hex numbers.
Then I presumed it was an old codec and tried indego video21
I think the webpage above might be of use.
Load the file into virtualdub www.virtualdub.org
