I have a VIDEO FILE that is 4Gb, has a .avi tag but is not recognised by anything. G-Spot says it’s not an avi, AVICodec says it’s smaller than 1kb. How do I find what it really is if it’s not an avi?

What is the FourCC on this file?

Where’d you download it from?

Does it play in VideoLAN (www.videolan.org)?

It won’t play in VideoLAN and the FourCC comes up as a blank in avichanger. I’v tried putting in one of the other values (mp2,3,4,div) and it still won’t play. The file was recorded from a webcam as an avi file using motion detection software from VintaSoft. Does the lack of FourCC mean it’s not playable?

I came across a file a couple of years back I could hear audio but there was no video.

The hex editor in virtualdub showen no FourCC which I could identify only hex numbers.

Then I presumed it was an old codec and tried indego video21

I think the webpage above might be of use.

Load the file into virtualdub www.virtualdub.org
