I’ve got a .MKV Video on my Macintosh, that works with MPlayer 2, but only without sound, neither WMP nor QT will play it, only Mplayer 2, but, as i wrote, without sound.

Can anyone help me?

I have the same problem as you do on Panther. And Matroska only has Winblows versions.

I’ve been having those problems for a long time with .mkv files. You either listen only sound or the video is choppy at best.
If both VLC Player and MPlayer can’t play it I think you’re out of luck. They’re improving mkv playback on both players, so maybe in the future, but for Mac OS X there’s no other solution at the moment that I’m aware of.

I just downloaded Mplayer OSX 2.0b9r5 which plays mkvs with audio AND video. It is a “For Tiger” release, so something must have changed in Tiger to cause the issue. And now it is fixed.

Now that I’ve got Tiger too (and the MPlayer for Tiger) *.mkv works both, sound and video, but not Subtitles (at least I didn’t found out how to)
But VLC 0.8.2 Supports .mkv with Subtitle and Audiotracks, and it can handly HDTV Videofiles (Mplayer dont really like those)

If you can’t read the video from the Matroska container but the sound is okay, the problem is often that it has been encoded with a RealVideo codec (currently RV40, also called RealVideo 9/10).
Only mplayer offers a codec pack for RealVideo on Mac OS X, but it doesn’t work on Tiger.

I have an MVK but at the end of the file it has .mvk.bc! and I don’t really know what that means but it won’t play on VLC. Do I need to convert it or should another play it just fine?
