Lost in convertion? (avi to mpg)

I’ve tried converting an avi file of a movie i’ve watched on the computer and has no problems to an mpg file twice on two different computers and each time the original avi file (length 1:39min) turns into a mpg file that’s only 49 minutes long, and the strange part is the movie credits start running at the begining of a fight scene in the middle of the movie. I have no idea what i could be doing wrong here, I’m using Digital Media Converter 2.4 to split the movie and convert it to mpg (this program has worked fine with every other movie). Anyone have any ideas where the back end of this movie could be going? or how i can avoid this?
