Crackling Sound thru avi movie

When I try to play avi on divx I get a crackling type sound all the way through the video. The picture is fine & the proper sound still plays, but the crackling sound is over the top really loud.

I have tried installing K Lite Codec pack & have run Video Inspector & GSpot which both say I have the correct codecs installed.

Please help!
