anon Guest | I am guessing that when you try and play a certain audio/video track it does not work. First, what program are you using to try and play the file? Second, what is the files extension (.mp3, .wav, .ogg, etc...)? There are a gazillion codecs out there used to playback different formats so I suggest that you download at least 1 of these programs I mention to see what codec you need....(Avicodec,video inspector, gspot). Once you have d/l one of those run it then add the file you are trying to play and it will tell you if you have the codec already or exactly which one you need. You may already have the right codec installed but sometimes the “all in 1” codec packs cause conflicts (if you installed 1). See, the all in 1 packs are ok sometimes but if you already have some codecs installed then you install 1 of these they will take over and negate the old codecs (the ones you just installed are now what your player will use). Also, if you are using a p2p program, alot of the audio and or video files are fake; these files also have hidden code inserted into them so when you try and play them back they “call home to mama” and report which file it was, your ip address,time,etc... Lastly, if you use WMP turn off the auto download feature and auto update feature. Alot of the files you get off of a p2p program you may not have a codec for and if you have autodownload on all your info is then sent to Microsoft so you can get a license for that particular file(don’t want that now do we). Good luck and I will check back here every so often to see how this worked out or to reply again. Hope this was of some kind of help.

somebody Guest | Well... I’m having to play the WAV file. That is all I know. I don’t know much about codecs but I do need the codec 1. That is all. Thanks for the reply. Now, could you please tell me, perhaps some alternative for me to settle this problem? It is okay if you don’t or cant’t. Appreciate the help.

minos Guest | I had the same problem even I installed “ac3filter_0_70b.exe” and “AC3.DTS_sangsu.exe” (in this order)
Finally, I hear sounds now. Try this. Make a new user account in the Control panel. Log into the new account and use the WMP. After this, you probably hear the sound even in your old account. I think “codec 1 error” is because of the change of the WMP setting after trying lots of installations not the codec itself.
