Startcode not found (invalid MPEG4)

On a few movies that I download I get a problem using MPEG4_Modifier, when I load the AVI file it reports an error “This is not a valid MPEG4 video (Startcode not found at the beginning of frame)". The file will play OK in Nero on the PC, but fails when I try it in a DivX DVD player.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this problem in the file? I have Vdubmod but to be honest I haven’t got a clue how to use it.
