JC Guest | Hi,
Anyone who has this device knows the encoding software they supply is almost unusable. The interface is aweful, it cannot be automated, and it is incredibly slow and buggy.
The movies that play on the device must be in asf format. Unfortunately I have been unable to figure out how to get videos encoded for this device using Windows Media Encoder 9. Has anyone done this or does anyone know how to generate the “correct” format for the device to play properly. | |

Spitfire Guest | I’m trying the same thing myself at the moment. The most I can figure out is that the settings of successfully encoded files are 510kbps, 320x240 (4:3), IMA ADPCM audio (whatever that is - PCM is usually uncompressed which can’t be the case for this bit rate) and ISO MPEG4 Video V1.
Encoder V9 does have an ISO compatible codec. When encode using these settings (using the Windows codec for Audio) and change the extension of the output file from .wmv to .asf, the PVR does manage to display parts of the video, but interspersed with noise. Is this what you are getting?
Incidentally, while looking for a way to use the PVR in the car (it’s useful to hook the video-in on the PVR to the video-out on my little portable DVD player and then the kids can have a screen each) I learnt that the power plug and voltage are compatible with the chargers and car adapters I had for an old Nokia mobile phone (I may just have been lucky - I can’t guarantee that a different charger won’t fry the PVR).
I’d be happy to share experiences with you on this. Most of the reports I come across on the Internet suggest that people just record using the video in option. Which is all very well, but the unit doesn’t like 16:9 PAL which is what most programmes are transmitted in (I have satellite) in the UK.
Feel free to email me at ak[delete this bit]@thekatzfamily.co.uk.
Cheers
