Egocide Guest | You can’t always tell what codec you need to play an extention. AVI for example is a container for hundreds of codes. As for mp4, I know there is at least standard and non-standard codecs of mp4. Apple’s mp4 is usually the one that needs Qucktime. There are also Apple mp4 files out there that need a DRM key. Also, some mp4 files are just music, like mp3... Bottom line, free solutions are linited or don’t work at all. Expect to pay if you want to play...

DigiCam Guest | I bought a Sanyo Xacti digital video camera that records on SD cards and all video is in .MP4 MPEG-4 format. I can’t believe that Windows Media Player has elected not to support MP4 and Quicktime does not fully support it? Guess I made a bad choice in cameras!!

mp4a is an MPEG-4 audio file. All you have is sound... no video.

DevilOne Guest | Hey, just use WinAVI Video Converter to convert the file into anything u want, like DVD format and just play it on BS player or whatever... u may need a codec to play certain movies if the audio or video isnt working. I found K-Lite codec pack worked well...
Hope it helps | |

support at vpfnm Guest | If you are still having the same problem none of the previous suggestions will work, because you have a bad driver file for the mp4 players. I never had any problems with the mp4 driver until a friend of mine installed itunes with Quicktime 7. Then I had the same problems that you have. Nothing seemed to work until I opened a movie (messed up picture~ok sound) to get Quicktime to open up. Click on Edit on top. Go to Preferences. Then select Quicktime preferences. Find the update tab. Click on 3rd party install button. Then you will be taken to a page were you can download and install DivXInstaller.exe. Save it and install and your problem will go away. Good Luck. Support@vpfnm.com
