Recently I had a sytem crash and when I reinstalled windows xp avi started playing back in slow motion. I have since gone back to windows 2000 and the problem is the same.

I don’t believe it is codecs as the picture is there and I have tried all sorts of combinations. I have a black screen for vlc player though. What could be causing this. It worked perfectly before so it isn’t the computer. I’m using my laptop screen and only, not dual monitor.

I’m lost.

Send me the video.

WHat is your setup? (how’s your computer configured)

I’ll try the video and if it works I’ll tell you my setup and you can see if it works that way.

It’s a time saver.

what is the size of the file?

Have you ever downloaded a codec pack that isn’t from Microsoft?

I have experienced something similar and I used Nimo codec pack.

I now use Microsoft’s codec packs and K-lite (the codec pack only, not the P2P software)

So just email the video to me but it can only be 9.999 MB only so if the file is a higher size then just remove some of it and send it to me.

It isn’t the file. The file worked perfectly before my crash. The system is a p3 600 with 192mb ram. The graphics card is a crappy 8m savage ix. AVI files worked for the last 3 years with no problem so it’s not the specs. It’s more than one avi file with the same results.

I’ve tried the codecs you mentioned and others. The codecs I have used worked. I’m thinking it could be a driver issue for my graphics card but I have tried loads and none fixed the problem. VLC player always worked doesn’t anymore. When I use vlc player the screen is black. I close vlc player and it remains in the services using 50mb of ram and the sound continues.

It really is a strange problem.

I have the same problem with my P3 600. My memory is 512mb and video card is 32mb. The play back is in slow motion for almost all the avi files. One day I tried Real Player v.10.5 and it worked really great. But after I installed WMP 10, it was slowing down again even after I uninstall WMP. The processor speed is definitely a problem but I just don’t understand why sometimes it works. Must be a plug-in or something.

I fixed my problem. I Changed a bios setting under cache. I changed write through to write back and sped up my system a lot.
