Sh_wn Guest | I have an XVID avi that when I try to play says I need a codec. I d/l’ed gspot and found out I have 2 possible codecs that will play the video. Gspot also comes up with this error when I try to render it: 0040242 failed to render...
I d/l’ed the 055 audio codec(MPEG layer-1) to see if that would work, but it doesn’t...
Can anyone point me to another possible solution?
Thanks!

Tim Guest | I went to the GSpot page and downloaded that and it did not work, but also on the same GSpot page at the bottom in related downloads called AVIcodec. That is the one. I had 2 files that had no sound. This is the best utility that I’ve EVER used. It not only tells you what the problem is, it links you to a page that has the fix. That page is a little trickier as I had to click into each one and read which one I needed. Mine turned out to be a mute issue and everything is perfect now. Try this and you won’t be disappointed!

Shawn Guest | ok, tried the avicodec program, nothing really stuck out...
this is what I got from the windows media 10 site...
The codec you are missing is not available for download from this site. You might be able to find it on another site by searching the Web for “1” (this is the WaveFormat or FourCC identifier of the codec).
any ideas?

andy Guest | i get the “1” msg too, i’ve spend the whole afternoon installing all the codecs, but nothing works. I start to suspect is there is something wrong with the window media player 10. I dun have this kind of problem before i use WMP 10.
anyone know what “1” codec is ? thanks.=)

andy Guest | Finally, i found the solution to my problem of
“The codec you are missing is not available for download from this site. You might be able to find it on another site by searching the Web for “1” (this is the WaveFormat or FourCC identifier of the codec)."
It is a chinese codec pack after installing it, everything works like magic. Both video and sound are working well.
That’s what i got when i use the render option of GSpot (guess that’s what “1” stands for)
Audio (S) — > Ogg Splitter — > Vorbis Decoder — > Morgan Stream Switcher — > (R)
The link: http://www.ogg.cn/software/view-software-205.html
Scroll down you will see the download option. File size 12.9mb
Good luck. =D

joboscribe Guest | This address lead me to a really fast download that did the trick for me. The chinese site is slow... really slow. I’m still downloading from it and the other site’s file, the one listed below, has already installed and my video is playing with sound. I recommend it. Could you tell?

Nick Guest | I was having a similar problem with an avi captured using Windows Movie Maker not having any audio in Windows Media Player 10. I was getting..

There was a hint above about Morgan Stream Switcher. I uninstalled the Morgan Stream Switcher and it all works again!

Tina Guest | I had the same problem and found a solution. All the files play fine with the Media Player Classic 6.4.8.4 (can be found on Free-Codecs.com)
It might be easier to download this than to search for the right codec.
