When creating a DVD from VOB files using Nero, how do you get Nero to let you use the Menu screen already created in the VOB files vs. having to create your own. Do I just copy the VOB files straight to the DVD?

buddy there is light at the end of your tunnel

you will need to get hold of a program called
Super DVD Creator, version 8.0

This does work , you can load numerous *.VOBs into it and it then creates the rest of the DVD info and burns all in one

Most of the other answeres here are BOGUS and a lot of wishfull thinking

Regarding ripping DVDs for playing on Media Center, I use DVD Decrypter in IFO mode to generate VOB files and then use Auto Gordian Knot to generate an avi file of a size I choose. I then drop those into the folder where I direct My Videos. Works like a charm.

I got a quick question, similar to the original post... I’m trying to copy a already burned DVD for a friend, nero gets through the copying phase, and then dies in the bunring phase... has anyone had a problem like this before? i have 2 different images (one from nero, and one from alcohol 120%) but i can’t put either on a DVD.

Yes. There is one particular software that can burn dvd file without using a dvd burner, just a normal cd burner.
Its called dvd squeeze. Here..read about it.

DVD Squeeze - DVD Converter, DVD Ripper and Backup DVD Compression Tool.

Hey..next time try google for the answer first. If you couldn’t find it, then you are welcome here with your question because this is not a McDonald Outlet or a Drive In.

man this thread has gone to shit...how is anyone supposed to read through all these different problems to get the answers they are looking for?
try replying if your problem is directly related to the original one posed, not some other remotely similar question. it makes it hard to find info when searching on the net...

I had a similar question to the one about if you burn VOB files, do you need the IFO and BUP files that come with it? I did burn one with all of them and it worked, but when I tried it again it did not. I might have just gotten lucky the first time, but as a write this post I am trying just VOB files onto a DVD-R. If this works, I will post again to let everyone know it works. Otherwise, how do you know what IFO and BUP files to put on with the VOB files? When I converted the files, they each came with their own IFO and BUP that were about 20kb in size. There were also two that were separate that were called VIDEO_TS IFO/BUP that were the same size. Do you need these files on each disk?

Check out this link...I know what you are asking, but I have never tried doing it. I will give it a shot today and post again, though I know it has been quite a while since the last post. I have used the method on this link before though. It works and it is free.

Haha! I knew it wouldn’t work, but I always wondered what it would do. It recognizes it as a DVD and if you try to playing it all you see is a black screen and the media player acts like it is playing it. I would advise using the link for the method I provided above along with DVD Shrink to make it fit onto the disc. You can download that here:

By the way, that was an unencrypted DVD too, a documentary to be exact. I know because I picked it for that reason.

VIDEOHELP.COM

You CANNOT view regular avi files ina Hardware DVD player. Some newer ones can handle DIVX, but only if it’s done EXACTLY TOSPEC. IE; no Q-Pel.etc.
NO, a vob file cannotbe burned straight to a disc, it MUST BE in the correct format.
No, you donot need the .bup files, those are internal 'BackUP files.
That 'Burner' Program mentioned for Burning with no burner.... what nonsense. OF COURSE you CANNOT burn a dvd if you do not have a burner.... That program simply squeezes things down to fit on a CD instead. NOT A DVD.

If you have a DVD you want to keep on your computer, then you would make an AVI file out of it. This is simply to save space. That’s it!
If you want to copy a Commercial DVD onto a Consumer DVD-R/W then you would need to use something like DVDShrink (3.2 last one ever, they are history)

To create the AVI,one user here suggested AutoGK, great choice for a one click solution. For sure try it out.

To burn the VOB files, you could try to use an ISO program, maybe UltraISO. You direct it to the folder where the vob files are, then save as *.ISO. This can then be burned onto a DVD, or viewed on your pc using a dvd emulator like Daemon Tools.
If you want menus and the sort, then try out Nero, it’s one of the esaiest and pretty much makes files that are comat. with most hardware players.

If you get a prblem with the input files not being accepted then you most probably do not have the correct filtersnstalled to work with them.

Filters come in 2 forms. one is the direct show stuff, the other are the DMO filters. Like if you use GSpot or Radlight Filter MAneger you will see a couple of copies ofsome of your filters, because both versions are installed. Not all filters come in DMO form. So some things just wont work.

This thread is definitely to broad.

luck.

well, i’ve been looking for a forum like this for a while right now, ripping the VOB-files wasn’t a problem.
Being a newbie, didn’t know i had to copy IFO and BUP files too.. found a program at doom9, IFOedit, which makes your IFO files.
My problem is, when i burn these VOBs to a DVD everything goes well, EXCEPT i cannot choose audio-channel, nor subtitles.
When i look into my IFO, IFOedit indicates everything is there, vStrip confirms.
I don’t need to shrink, because it fits my DVD, so i don’t feel like running through:
- demux
- rip subtitle
- shrink
- make m2v
- add m2v and add subtitle
- remux
- ..
it seems to me like a waste of time, and the demux/remux thing sounds too much like dataloss to me (is it?), so is there a way to grab your VOBs and keep audio-channels/subtitles?
