Encoding from mpeg 1 to anything in Premiere = crap. Help!

Hi,

I’m trying to make a montage for school from some xvid files. Premiere doesn’t like xvid so I made mpeg1 high(ish) bitrate clips in TMPGENC and they work fine. Whenever I try to export to anything (DV, mpeg 1/2/4, huffy, cinepak) it looks like terrible alised crap and doesn’t really change even with very high bitrates.

Any ideas? What codec/program could I use to start out with clips from the xvids?
