dvd movie file encoded....help

i saw a movie on dvd on media player and saved it on my comp. when i tried seeing it later it gave an error.
Error ID = 0xC00D116A, Condition ID = 0x00000000
it says that the movie file might have been encoded using a codec that is not supported by Windows Media Player. where can i download the required codec from and how do i know if it is the right one? please help me, i’m a damsel in a looott of distress.
