VideoLan is a very good player indeed, but I’d have to correct you on the “never need any codecs ever again” part.
You still need the correct codec installed on your system for VideoLan to play the file. I could send you files encoded in exotic codecs like VP6 or SP54 and VideoLan wouldn’t be able to play them (without installing the codecs first).

I’m trying to watch a series I have that I watched before my latest format. And now, it no longer plays: I tried with Windows Media Player, DivX Player and ATI Movie Player. All three of them start the movie fine, but with buggy sound. And after a few seconds, the whole software crashes.

Yesterday, I tried playing it with VLC Player and video plays fine, but without sound at all (and it doesn’t crash) and I get this error: “main error: no suitable decoder module for fourcc `undf'.
VLC probably does not support this sound or video format."

Also, when trying to check it’s codecs with AVIcodec, it finds the video codec ( Video : 216 MB, 1240 Kbps, 23.976 fps, 640*480 (4:3), WMV3 = Windows Media Video 9, Supported)
but for the audio codec, I get this: ( Audio : 22 MB, 129 Kbps, 48000 Hz, 2 channels, 0xFF = Unknown, Not checked)

So it can’t even find which audio codec it has... yet it played fine last year, when I downloaded them

help?

I was alil skepticle at first since I tried everything to get most of my samurai champloo eps to work but VLC is a really badass player that actually made a difference.

My best to the VLC team.

Mind I ask, what is the best video player for a lowly specced PC? Somewhere in the range of 800 Mhz C3 Samuel proc?

I’m getting 100% cpu cycle watching AVI/DVD/Divx...

thanks!

I think that avsmediahome.notlong.com" rel="nofollow" target="_new">Free AVS DVD Player is much better.

It’s a free product, that worth to be commercial.

I use this one - AVS DVD Player.

Along with DVDs it plays H.264, 3gp, Quicktime, WMV-HD and others. Comes as freeware, no ads or spyware, and includes some interesting features like changing aspect ratio or bookmarking your favourite spots in a DVD. Has a nice audio processing feature which makes stereo files sound like 5.1 or 7.1 surround!

Quick grab AVS DVD Player at http://www.avsmedia.com/DVDPlayer/
