i have a mpeg file that can’t be played in any of the players i have (i downloaded almost every one mentioned here, plus the usual ones like divx.) it’s a downloaded file and it’s a completed one, so it shouldn’t a corruption or missing parts problem. i tried to change the extension through 'properties' but it just turns out like 'abc.mpeg.avi'. the error messages from the players didn’t say anything about missing codecs, only that 'we don’t understand the mpeg file you are trying to play' or 'unplayable' or 'invalid'...i’d be very very happy if somebody could tell me what to do..thanks very much!!

It COULD be a corrupt file there depending on the way you GOT the file downloaded and the program you used (ie kazaa does NOT check to see if you GOT the file correct...for all it knows, you got XXX.XXmb of the file.
You said you downloaded all the players mentioned (waste of time if you ask me), BUT..........

Did you download the CODECS that involve mpg and mpeg files though? Any player in the world won’t actually play a file without the proper codec to do the job....even VLC media player (which seems to be a newish hit among places too...I myself tried it once, but didn’t like it....I wrote my own instead)
