Pinnacle MPEG2 files

I have Pinnacle Media Center 300i which captures MPEG files - I believe in MPEG-2 format from the DVB_T aerial (digital TV). Pinnacle software plays these fine, but no other software will look at them. (Windows, Real Quick time etc.) Is this a CODEC problem and what should I do?
