avi playback funny colours

ok heres the problem i can play my avis ok but the pic is real poor thr colours are not normal while viewing in media player reds are bright red and greens the same can any1 point me in the right
direction to sort the colours out please i also have installed codecs by codec to sort it but to no prevail
