Dunno if someone already posted this. Anyway, if you are having troubles with VLC player that it does not display the subtitles, make sure the srt file(s) and avi file(s) are in the same folder and have the same filename (except for the .srt and .avi extensions obviously). Then it should work. The subtitle menu option in VLC will not be grey anymore.

I.e.:
daywatch.avi and daywatch.srt

Subtitles can be downloaded from www.subtitles-divx.net for example (there are many sites).

Oh...no wonder sometimes subtitles wouldn’t display that well. I kept on getting this window that appears. Thanks for the tip!

ok, for a mac, here’s what you do:
if you don’t have a VLC player, download one-newest version. open it.
'open file'
browse for .AVI file you want to play
check the box which says 'load subtitles file'
Load your .srt file,
and play movie.

yeeeeaah!

I’ve got an avi-file and the subtitles for it. Is it possible to make a DVD with these two files, using TMPEnc Express and TMP DVD Author?

I just got an avi file with an srt file included. And I had to do some research to find out how to play them.

I had recently gotten a program called

THE CORE MEDIA PLAYER
http://www.corecoded.com/

Before I looked any farther I thought I’d give the program a try with the file, without having to do anything this program played the avi with the subtitles.

Give it a shot, it’s also a great program, 100% free. And will play other media files my other players wont.

I wasn’t able to get it to work for Windows Media Player, but it does work for the Core Media Player. You can even change the font of your subtitles.

I also downloaded directvobsub and it worked automatically. Much quicker and suspiciously easier than I had thought it would. Thanks for the help!

Hello everyone,
If you have a video file and and srt or some other subtitle file. All you have to do is, go to http://www.free-codecs.com/download/VobSub.htm , if that doesn’t work, search for VobSub on your desired search engine. Install the app and then the video file and the corresponding subtitle file, and click MUX. Specify a name for the file and the destination directory. After when the two other windows come up just click apply and proceed. You should be fine. If you have any problem, you may contact me at ilovecars21@yahoo.com Hope this helps. Good luck and take care!
