emmerjin Guest | thank you thank you thank you rubytu, i have just spent hours surfing trying to find a way to play subtitles on my VLC, most saying download this or that, save .avi and .srt under same name in same folder. I tried them all and in the end all i needed was a way to put the subtitle file in manually, so i thank you, you saved me another couple of hours of mindless surfing.

Linkeless Guest | I downloaded Vobsub - about 300k - Installed it
http://www.free-codecs.com/download/DirectVobSub.htm
Rename the .srt file to the same name as the .avi
Eg: 'Matrix.avi' 'Matrix.srt'
Opened it with Windows Media Player Classic, That came with the all important CCCP Codec pack, If you dont have this then simply right click the .avi and select 'Open With' : 'Choose Prgram' : 'Browse' : 'C:\Program Files\Windows Media Player\Mplayer2.exe'
Subs should Load automaticaly with the .avi file.

Platonic Guest | Quick reminder that to play the .avi and .srt together they have to have the same file name (except for the file extention of course).

Clecioms Guest | uauuu!!!

VLC WORKS Guest | If you open VLC, select file, then open file it should bring up a screen where you can choose your video file and which file to open as your subtitles text. Problem solved. Death note works for me now. Just screw around with VLC, you’ll find it.

On a mac using VLC go to preferences and deselect 'automatically detect subtitle files' and then choose the subtitle file to be played with the movie using the 'browse' button. It’s not automatic but it works!
