Downloading ASF files

I have tried downloading streaming video asf files using ASF Recorder. Howver the downloaded file will not play. Does anyone have a solution?

Try the irfan viewer that player can
play nearly everything include asf files
just download the player and all the plugins
and i think you can play your files.

Tried irfan but it seems to be only for still pictures not movies. Any hints?
