Are you on a Mac? If so, you can use VLC, a freeware program, to watch them.

I think on PCs they play on Windows Media if you get a codec. See other answers on this board.

if u need help u should probably give a lil more nfo on ur problem. avi files r created by divx so u would need the divx codec. im assuming they r tv shows since i have d/l some of lol’s work ur probably not gonna burn em 2 dvd or anything like that so just get the vlc media player from download.com and you’ll b able 2 watch em with em with no problem.

this is very simple to solve and here is how

hdtv-lol files come encoded in xvid codec

u need to download the xvid codec which is free (do a google search)

install it then

right click on the file that u want to watch

move the mouse to open with and the sub menu will appear.

select Avic with a little icon next to it that looks like a little chequered flag

click to open

now select the file by using the browse button ... in the square next the file path bar

now set as so

click apply.....your xvid file is now a DivX file adn will play in divx player and windows media player

(www.divx.com) for codec and player

Ok I tried this and I’m fuzzy on what exactly I’m supposed to set as “http://img194.exs.cx/img194/2419/xvid2divx9ko.jpg”..

There is not a square next to the file path bar.

Can someone clarify?

Thanks.

Hey guys.. I need help. I have downloaded a tv series episode and its file type is hdtv-lol. I’ve read and tried everything you guys wrote here but i can’t get it to work. I downloaded and installed the xvid codec and ffdshow, and tried to play it with wmp 10. It still didn’t work! I’m sure that the files i want to play are okay, not corrupted or anything. I’m out of ideas... Does anyone have an idea of what might be going on? Help me!!

Install the right codec and watch the file.
Perhaps use mediaplayer classic also

Whats wrong with you? This isnt a problem.
Just a bunch of - that refuse to think for them selves.

Oh and yes its often xvid codec.

These people are not idiots. The only idiots I know insult others on the web.

I’m quite proficient with a computer and usually able to play any media, but this one is giving me a real problem, Ive also tried everything here and nothing works... Ive got a whole tv series I cant watch and Im pissed. Ive got all the Divx Xvid stuff.. The video starts for a few seconds and then jumps and stops.

I’ve been playing lol’s hdtv rips for a long while now, with never a problem.
I use the K-Lite Mega Codec Pack, and it has everything I need in there for playing those, and pretty much everything else.

I do recommend using Media Player Classic or BSPlayer (included in the codec pack) for playing these.

VLC (www.videolan.org) works well, but some may find it too intimidating. It doesn’t require a lot of codecs, however, as most of the decoders are built into the program.

Hope that helps!

what it sounds more like, is that you’re trying to play incomplete/corrupted files. The .avi container format isn’t as error-tolerant as MPEG is. You can play incomplete or slightly corrupt mpegs no problem, since the format is designed for disc playback, where you might have spots and scratches in the disc that might interrupt the data stream.
AVI has an index of the entire file at the beginning, requiring that the entire movie be complete and without error for it to play.
