I have just started downloading movies off the net, and through this forum have found out all about codecs, but i am having other troubles. most movies i download will not play on my DVD player I am getting the message unknown disc on it( the discs play on my computer). I was wondering whether it was due to regions. My DVD player plays region 2 or all regiion discs. Could it be the formats I am recording in. The one I just tried was AVI. Is there any way to find out if a downloaded movie will play prior to downloading it. Any help would be great . Some advice on literature about all this or a relavent web site would be helpful too.

If the avi plays fine on your PC you must convert it to the DVD (VOcoolformat in order to play it in your DVD Player.

There are quite a few peices of software that will do this for you:

WinAVI Video Convertor 6.2

Hi,

There could be two possible problems that I see with your DVD’s not playing on your player. I am not an expert by any means, but have been burning DVD’s for over two years and enjoying on my DVD player since.

The first problem could be that your DVD player doen’t support AVI files. If that’s the case, that is why your CPU will read the disc but your DVD player will. To fix this, try burning a DVD in MPEG format. If that doesn’t work, then you may need a new DVD player.

Was your DVD player purchased prior to 2001? What brand and how much was it? You should be able to find a very inexpensive DVD player that will play your discs and I can recommend a DVD/VCR combo from JVC that was about $100 over a year ago that I’ve seen as working perfectly with burned DVD’s.

Hi, i downloaded this movie & created an ISO image out of the Video_TS folder and I went to burn it using Nero 7 after using dvd shrink to create the image...my computer’s dvd player will play it(LG dvd player/burner), but my DAEWOO dvd player won’t play it and my slim ps2 says “TV System doesn’t match”...no other dvd players in my house can read this dvd, is there any way to fix this problem using dvd shrink or dvd decrypter? also if you have suggestions of any other programs(free) that may be able to fix this problem, that’d be great :v)

I read Nellyp63 and her problem is similar to mine, but i am downloading files from limewire and most files are bogus or they dont download/someone is not available/ etc. I dont know if the quality is good. I need to know where i can find software AVi and Vob to download to be sure my dvd’s will play on my dvd and what sites offer good dvds to download, not just a bunch of bogus files like Limewire.
