I need some inforamtion regarding video codec. The raw video file is passed through Encoder (Discrete cosine transform(dct), quantization and Entropy coding (hauffman coding) ). Then the coded file is passed through decoder (IDCT,inverse quantizer,etc..). My doubt is, the mpeg file that is stored in cd or the file stored in hard disk is in encoded form or it is in decoded form. When we play it in media player or any player what actually happens. Does media player decompresses the file i.e does it performs the function of decoding..
Can any one send me the details about what happens in media player or VCD player..
