That is correct. Microsoft Video 1 (fourcc CRAM) is one of the few codecs that are commonly used, yet not decoded by VLC (others include Indeo 4 and 5). (So much for the [censored]s who keep typing that VLC can play anything - it can play a lot, but not everything).
The codec should be included in all versions of Windows since 95, but if you lost it, you can reinstall it via steps I outlined in
thread 4275 (see post #4 if you use Windows 2000, XP, or Vista 32-bit), or you can play the file in QuickTime Player.
