Xvid avi file - distorted video

Hi, I downloaded an avi movie, and am having problems with the video. It shows very distorted - lots of pixels, and a “ghost” effect, where previous images remain on the screen.
I used GSpot to find out what codec was needed - and it says xvid. I’ve already got it.
Have tried the file on another computer and it worked fine.
Could it be that I need to uninstall some codecs because they’re conflicted or something? If so, how would I go about doing this?

Thank you..
I solved it in the end by uninstalling all the codecs and packs I had downloaded in the past, then installing xvid again.
I’ll keep that program in mind if it happens again
