Cole Guest | Hi, no I currently dont supply the DTS package on its own because of the required files that go with it (it can be installed on its own though), there are some smoothing options for DivX 5.1.1 and if you have any worries about it being authentic it can be checked against DivX’s own package,
I havent found any blocks in resize on any of my systems but using the smooth playback and deblocking may help you, but please do remember that what you’re viewing is intended to be as close to the original as you can currently get or as close as the ripper got.

“No. I don’t need the AC3 codec.
It’s Tag 2001 — not 2000.“
So... FYI what you need is an XForm filter and Decoder. The AC3Filter is both an XForm filter and Decoder and contrary to what Cole said, it does work.
In Cole’s solution it’s only using Gabest’s AC3/DTS XForm Filter and a suitable Decoder, which is namely - InterVideo AC3 Decoder 5.1.5.5 - Unlocked. Now, I dunno about the actual legality of offering the InterVideo AC3 Decoder - unlocked, in a pack, but you’ve got to wonder...

“b) way to get just the DTS codec/filter from you directly instead of being contained in the entire codec pack?“
I have answered this question above, seeinq as Cole didn’t appear to know the answer...
Also, I would like to add that it’s not a DTS codec, it’s simply a DTS decoding method as the sound is being relayed to a suitable decoder and outputted.
In the case of the AC3Filter method, audio is put through the XForm, decoded and outputted. ALL the process is done by the ACFilter.

Kylenol Guest | Hi,
I realize that a filter and decoder are necessary in order to hear the audio (via DirectX filter chaining), however, I still don’t understand why the DTS audio can be decoded using what is labelled as an “AC3 Decoder”. DTS and AC3 have a different audio encoding structure, yet every “decoder” I’ve seen treats them as one and the same when it comes to decoding them.
What’s with that?

Cole Guest | @ Frightfo0
DTS audio in avi etc. is tagged as 2001, which cannot be decoded by the open source AC3Filter.
To tell people exactly how I’ve done what I have done in my packs would probably cause legal issues so I simply have no comment.
There is no hack, no crack and no reverse engineering involved.

Cole Guest | Almost forgot.... if you wanted to go to the point of changing the tag to 2000 to ID as AC3, then you could get it to pass through to almost any AC3 decoder,
I would not suggest doing that though because to every application its launched in it would be seen directly as AC3 when its not, it could cause confusion in many ways.

To play back AC3 (Dolby Digital) or DTS (Digital Theatre Surround) within AVI/MKV/OGM files you have two options.
1. Use an XForm filter that relays the AC3/DTS data from the AVI/MKV/OGM container into an AC3/DTS Decoder and the second is the Decoder itself.
2. Use The Open-Source AC3 Decoding Filter (which contains both the XForm and Decoder in one filter).
Note that not all decoders actually need the XForm filter (For example, the NVIDIA NVDVD filters have internal XForm filter), but installing this filter has no detrimental effect, so you might as well have it installed.
My personal favorite AC3/DTS Decoder filter is that one that comes with the WinDVD Player or Decoder pack. This player is commercial and can be bought at InterVideo.

Cole Guest | Quoting thread subject: >>> Unknown Codec (tag 2001)
AC3Filter does not... I repeat does NOT decode 2001 tagged DTS.
You raised a fairly pointless arguement which has probably got some people reasonably confused, I hate to quote you.... but here you go:
“My personal favorite AC3/DTS Decoder filter is that one that comes with the WinDVD Player or Decoder pack. This player is commercial and can be bought at InterVideo."
If you’re using that then AC3Filter will not be in use on your system for DTS.
We do agree on one thing however, the InterVideo codec is the best and yes people should buy it.
Also it’s true that there is no such thing as a DTS playback codec for the PC, it would be nice if there was but for the time being we have to make the most of what we have.
I’d like to see InterVideo sell the codec on its own, there is a huge market out there for people who just want that simple little thing and not the player.
Hopefully thats more helpful ... Cole

need raw DTS Guest | Thanks, guys for the insight.
I’ve got the sound in both AC3 (x2000) and DTS (x2001). Using Cole’s pack, Thanks.
I’ve used the ac3filter to skip the decoding and the signal raw to the receiver - in ac3 it works great - my Harman/Kardon lights up with 6 (DD) or even 8 channels of audio (DD-EX).
But I can’t get the same effect with DTS. It seems as it is coming predecoded, and sends only two channels.
According to GSpot routing is obviously different, and there is now direct codec for DTS, so it’s rendered directly.
Any suggestions for DTS codec/filter that doesn’t decode?
Thanks,
Alko.

Raw DTS is tagged around 2089, at the moment I’m not sure external decoders would understand the tag correctly without some processing there, you could try passing through on SPDIF with the InterVideo decoder.

Wannabe Rep: 0 Joined: 16 Feb 2004 Posts: 15 OFFLINE | It’s good to see that some progress is being made with AC3Filter to make it support DTS, I think everyone should be aware thats its not stable yet though.
I will be coninuing to use InterVideo’s filter in my packages, but may include AC3Filter as an optional filter at a later date.
For those wanting a stable and working solution:

lyliakar Guest | hi all, I just wanted to thank Cole.
I got the same problems as Kylenol, I already had the ac3 codec installed and even installed a filter for DTS I found goolgling (like I found this forum), but still got no sound, while his pack works like a charm. I just installed the audio codecs tho, as I already had the video ones.
Thanks man, keep up with the good job
And just to add my 2 cents, I could turn the DTS audio into an mp3 track using a device: I re-encoded the movie using Dr. Divx, not for the movie’s sake but for the audio’s, as Gknot and vdub didnt recognise DTS despite Cole’s pack, then stripped the video and replaced the DTS track in nandub.
