Kylenol Guest | I have used VirtualDub and GSpot to check out what audio codec I need for this AVI file, and it is reporting a Tag 2001.
GSpot seems to think that it’s DTS audio, but it also reports that it’s produced by Dolby Laboratories, which is funny because DTS is Dolby’s competitor.
Anyway, I located EliSoft’s codec pack which contained a DTS audio ActiveX filter and installed it, but it is still not working for the movie (i.e. It’s not meant for tag 0x2001).
Can anyone help me with this?
Thanks in advance.

radicalashboy Guest | You Need AC3 Codec
Try K-Lite Codec Pack: Download From Kazaa or Try this site to Download AC3 Codec aka Tag 2000 Codex

Kylenol Guest | No. I don’t need the AC3 codec.
It’s Tag 2001 — not 2000.
Tag 2000 refers to Dolby Digital (AC3), whereas
Tag 2001 refers to DTS.
I installed InterVideo’s DTS codec which finally allows me to play the movie, but no audible sound is heard.
Any ideas?

I don’t think there is a stand alone DTS codec/filter. If there is, it’s not free.

Kylenol Guest | There is an open-source filter available that I know of, but you need something that the filter can push the DTS Audio to.
As I mentioned before, the InterVideo codec is standalone but it did not produce any audible sound for me.
I have also tried playing the movie in PowerDVD (which has a DTS processor built-in) and it also produces no sound.
I find this very strange. I have even attempted to use VirtualDubMod in conjuction with HyperCube Transcoder to rip the audio out of the movie and then break it apart and process it into 6 mono-WAV files, but these files also seem to be dead for sound.
I’m pretty sure that the audio was encoded correctly in the movie, so I don’t think I’ve got a full movie’s worth of dead audio.
Any more suggestions?
(Thank you btw to those who have replied to this post already )

Kylenol Guest | I still have not been able to resolve this problem.
My last resort will have to be abandoning the DTS audio track on the movie and stealing a standard stereo stream from another copy of the movie and trying to refit it to the frame rate of the DTS-bundled movie.
I really don’t want to lose the DTS audio though.
If anyone wishes to help me out, I can give you a short clip of the movie with a DTS stream and hopefully you may be able to shed some light on this screwy situation.
Thanks again,

bmkim Guest | Kylenol,
I have same problem. Did you get any further after 12/18?

Kylenol Guest | Not yet... I’ve tried to leave a message with the original ripper but I haven’t heard any response back from him/her.
This is brutal.

TalTul Guest | I think this should help you.
Get “AC3 Decoder” from http://www.mediatwins.com. Find a serial no. otherwise it will only process half of each file.
-Open the AVI file with VirtualDub.
-Press File, Save WAV. and save the AVI’s audio stream into a WAV file.
-Rename this .WAV file to .AC3.
-Use AC3 Decoder to convert it to uncompressed or MP3 .WAV format.
-Return to VirtualDub and in Audio meno choose “WAV Audio” and select the converted WAV file.
-In Video menu, choose “Direct stream copy” and save this to a new, simple stereo readable AVI file.
I found this solution after many sleepless nights trying to burn Saving Private Ryan over VCD... I hope it helps. bye

Jazzl Guest | Or go on overnet (or emule or edonkey) and look for DTS.AC3.Audio.Codec.exe.
It worked for me! Be aware of that the installation interface is using some weird character set, but there are just a few times you´ll need to either confirm or cancel, so trying a max of 3 times to install it should get you through

I_Have_It Guest | I just got a copy of the audio codec for this. It was made by a Korean, so it has korean messages. There is one button to click which is “Agree” asking agree to install.
Search for a file name “AC3.DTS_sangsu.exe”
Sorry there is no attachment feature in this reply.

Cole Guest | Hi, The codec packs on my site support DTS in full by parsing DTS over to AC3 and using the AC3 decoder from WinDVD Platinum 5, everyone else producing codec packages seem to be boasting DTS support through AC3Filter 0.70b when it doesnt even work.
My packages unlock InterVideo’s AC3 decoder which can have DTS passed through via Gabest’s converter and filter.
Anyway heres the link for you.... http://www.cole2k.net

Warning! Guest | Do ***NOT*** download the K-Lite codec pack from Kazaa!!! It contains a worm called WORM_SDDROP.A.
Read more about it here:
http://www.trendmicro.com/vinfo/virusencyclo/default5.asp?VName=WORM_SDDROP.A
To prevent any possible malware, simply download the AC3 codec from the divxmovies website:
http://www.divxmovies.com/faq/#4.4
Direct link to the file:
http://download.divxmovies.com/ac3filter_0_70b.exe
Everything worked for me when i installed this...and no viruses! =)

Kylenol Guest | To Cole:
Amazing. After installing your Compact codec pack, the DTS audio worked on the movie.
Thank you very much for providing me with the link to your site. I highly recommend that anyone else who wishes to get DTS working on their machine to get the codec pack from Cole’s site as listed in the earlier post.
However, the DivX5 Pro codec contained in the codec pack install seems to be giving me problems. The previous DivX5 codec I had installed on my machine (from Divx’s website) smoothly resized my movies when switching to full screen. However, the Pro codec in your pack, although providing much better controls, does not resize well and causes fixed blocks to appear in the frames of full-screened movies.
Is there any:
a) explanation for this?
b) way to get just the DTS codec/filter from you directly instead of being contained in the entire codec pack?
Again, thank you very much and I hope to hear from you soon.
