Hi,
I have problems in playing the DVD contents written in Nero InCd format.

Will this InCD writes any header on the original files also?

any format converters will be of usefull for me?

Thanks in advance.

What exactly are you trying to do? If you’re trying to author a DVD playable in a standalone DVD player you shouldn’t be using InCD. InCD uses UDF and packet writing to treat your RW media like removable media (floppy, zip)
If you’re just writing plain data (like a data DVD) that doesn’t need to played back in a standalone DVD player, InCD is fine though (should be readable by most PC’s with DVD drives)

> Will this InCD writes any header on the original files also?
Huh? Why would you expect it to modify the data at all?

> any format converters will be of usefull for me?
Hard to answer without knowing what you’re trying to do.

Thanks Carrot for reply,
Hey will make my point clear now.
1. I have some .avi/.mpg files written on my RW media(DVDs) in Nero InCD format.

2. I am trying to Play those .avi/.mpg files in my PC by decoders like windows media player, real player etc.

But,
I am unable to play those .avi/.mpg files in my PC!!!
3. and I am able to see a UDF symbol as prefix to my original .avi/.mpg file names.

So I am suspecting that while writing the original .avi/.mpg files into DVD, the InCD has inserted some header
packet into the original files.

Please guide me in this....

Are you able to open the file(s) at all? What happens when you attempt to play them? (any error messages?)

The problem with InCD (and packet writing in general) is it writes new data whereever there’s space. This means if you deleted a file (and thus there’s a hole, assuming everything was appended to the end before that), it’ll write new data there, possibly breaking contiguity. This can lead to fragmentation. On a HD, fragmentation isn’t too bad, but on optical media (which are quite slow), it’s a no-no, especially if you plan on reading large chunks of data like playing videos.
Be cautious with packet writing. Although it’s handy because it can handle your optical media like a big floppy, it can be unreliable, so don’t store your only copy of data you can’t live without on there. See the CD-R FAQ section 6.3

If you’re really having trouble reading the files, perhaps writing a regular data DVD with nero burning rom (or express), and leaving the session opened (multisession) to add files later, would be a better option.
Also you could just copy the files to the HD then play them back from there (a temporary solution - store the files on DVD, but copy them on HD whenever you need to play them)

Hi Carrot thanks for the link.
As you suggested currently I am handling the video files in my HD and able to play them in VLC player. Thanks for the info.

But I am curious weather the files in UDF format can be reverted to original format or not. It will be great if i get any more suggestions on it.
