Sound scratchy when converting files

Whenever I try to convert media files (mp3, avi, mpg) etc to burn onto DVD -R or CD-R it has a scratchy noise on top of the file. The picture and sound both work fine, but the annoying scratchy buzzing type sound plays throughout.

It doesnt appear to be my burner, because I can copy direct from cd to cd and it works fine. It is just when converting media files from my computer.

Any thoughts?
