carrot Guest | Remember AVI is merely a container (like a wrapper) inside which you can have video and audio streams compressed in various codecs (COmpressor/DECompressors). To decode a stream compressed in a specific codec, you need that codec.
First thing to try: Perian (it’s kind of like a “codec pack” for QuickTime Player).
If that doesn’t work, try MPlayer OS X.
If that still doesn’t work, try VLC Media Player.
