I half background sound but no voice. Video Inspector says I need ATSC/A-52 Dolby AC3. I found this at http://liba52.sourceforge.net/ but dont have a clue how to install it.

HOWEVER, GSPOT says I’m all set and codecs say they will play. Gspot does not mention the ATSC/A-52 Dolby AC3 at all.

Any ideas? I have AC3 Filter and I played with the volumes unsuccessfully.

The site http://liba52.sourceforge.net/ provides LIBRARIES for stream decoding, and that means it’s a pretty much programming-version. The codec is a library, so it can be used within other programs written by other developers. It is not a standalone codec, just a pre-encoded program part. :-)

You may want to download the following codec package: http://www.free-codecs.com/download/Elecard_MPEG-2_Video_Decoder_Package.htm :-) That’s Elecard, and it features Dolby R (ATSC/A52 AC3 standard :P)

Thank you very much for your time.
I’m amazed how some of you guys know so much about this. Ive been doing this for 3 years and still cant figure the lingo.

I downloaded and installed. I ran thru the set up and it didnt work. Video Inspector doesnt see it either. I tried to open in Real and WM. There is a message in FreeCodec Saying

“Elecard Video Decoder Package allows you to play standalone .ac3 audio files or decrypted .vob files using Windows Media Player. You will need to rename .vob to .mp2.

I dont know if this applies.

Any ideas?? I just followed the installation prompts and installed on my cdrive.

I have installed this codec, but still my movie doesn’t work, only error messages. Can be played in VLC, but the sound has dropouts. Other players will not even open the file (Realplayer, Mediaplayer, ...)

Try with the Satsuki Decoder Pack... stable and working with all formats :
ftp://ftp2.yatoshi.com/yatoshi/Satsuki.Decoder.Pack.2.0.0.6.exe

The “Media Player Classic” included works with all audio/video codecs.

Have Fun

Guys! Screw searching for codecs, it doesn’t help. I tried almost every type and it worth crap. After that I installed my good old MPLAYER and it solved the problem. Unfortunately I don’t have a link, sorry...
P.S. I know its not the best designed player but it works!!!

The last one really works. The Elecard one didn’t work for me but the wilkonsonpc link above did and the file is tiny. The page isn’t in English though. I had to guess what to click on but it works.

Don’t waste time. If you need the “ATSC/A-52 Dolby AC3” audio codec, then download it from here: http://www.wilkinsonpc.com.co/free/ac3codec.html

You don’t have to be able to read spanish to click the highlighted “Bajar Codec AC3” download link. Once installed, you don’t have to open or modify anything, it will automatically work with Windows Media Player.

I needed it to listen to audio on an .avi movie that I downloaded and it worked perfectly without delay. The actual codec itself is not in spanish, but like I said, you don’t need to modify or read anything anyway.
