here in Australia “hdtv” stands for 'high definition television' or better known as digital tv! TV quality as good as a dvd. As for “lol” i can’t suggest an answer except for lots of laugh by the makers....lol

Excuse me for saying this, many novices disagree, but..... NEVER EVER load those codec paks. They have so much trash in them that you will never use. The correct thing to do is simply dl GSpot, use it to find out which codec you need for the particular video, then dl the codec, install it... and only it. For finer control over what the codecs are doing, you can use Radlight Filter Manager. You can use it to Register the Filters, and unregister them, rather than installing and uninstalling over and over. Much neater. It also allows you to set the priority for the filters, ie; which one gets chosen/tried first, then next, etc. Windows 'builds' a 'filter graph' to play media files. It tried the filters one after the other until it comes up with a combo that works. A really good and configurable player is MPC, Media Player Classic. (ie; hacked ver of win media player 6.4) With this player many codecs arebuilt in, or you can override and allow the system codecs to be used, or just pick the ones you want to use.
DIVX and XVID will co-exist with no problems, you just need to set the filters to not compete with each other. Inother words, set DIVX todecode DIVX files, and XVID for XVID files, the rest of the formats is upto you. I prefer using XVID to decode the other 4cc’s, I think it’s sharper. But, that’s just a personal choice.

luck!

Hello people. I had a lot of same problem. I solved it this way, I instulled a soft called
“VideoInspector” from : http://www.kcsoftwares.com (it is free)
Open the file you intend to play with this soft and it telles you what codec is missing (video/audeo),it will redirect you to the site with reqiered codec. It also gives a complete list of all instulled codeces on your computer.
Good luck to everybody. From Russia with Love!

IF YOU WANT TO SOLVE THIS PROBLEM, WHAT I SUGGEST YOU AS MOVIE FAN, IS TO DOWNLOAD THE LATEST VERSION OF ACE MEGA CODECS PAK 6.03 AND INSTALL IT. ANY HDTV-LOL OR ANY KIND OF VIDEO CAN BE PLAYED WITH THIS CODEC PACK WHICH INCLUDE EVERYTHING.

AS AN ANSWER TO THE A QUESTION BELOW, LOL IS LAUGHT OUT LOUD BUT IS ALSO SOMEONE WHO ENCODE MOVIES AND A LOT OF PROGRAMS. ALL MY CSI FILES ARE FROM HIM AND PLAYED VERY WELL ON BS PLAYER.

I HAVE 453 MOVIES PLUS AROUND A 1000 SHOWS ON MY COMPUTER (WHICH I BACK UPPED) AND BS PLAYER ALWAYS PLAYED EVERY OF THEM, AND IN A REALLY AND PERFORMANT WAY.

ACE MEGA CODECS PACK 6.03 COME WITH BS PLAYER AND EVERY MOVIES/SHOWS FAN IN YOU WILL FIND IT RELIABLE AND INTERESTING.

TRY THIS OUT AND YOU’LL BE CONVINCED.

Hey I have a problem with VLC player
I downloaded the VLC media player and decided to test it out with some of the family guy eps I have from the site.
These are perfect in WMP and real player, even DivX but when I try playing these in VLC I get a spliced image, you know like a dirty video cassette where the image is repeated and overlaps from the bottom to the top of the screen.
Any way of sorting this out, maybe fix aspect ratios or some codec I need?
Thanks

The problem with VLC choipping the video up is that it isn’t using the proper codec to view it. For any of you using GSpot, the whole idea is not to just see if it can render the video, but rather to see WHICH CODEC is being used to render it properly. THEN, you can go and set that codecs priority higher, and the bad or wrong ones lower. That way when you try to view the video, the player you are using, ANY PLAYER, will call the PROPER codecs.
Windows uses a hit/miss deal when playing videos. There are a bunch of codecs in your system, especially if you load one of those 'packs'. Not all of these codecs work nicely together, in fact some steal the focus away from others that may work quite a bit better. If the video plays properly in Media Player Classic, then right click on the screen, scroll to 'filters' and check to se what filter (codec) is the one being used. You can then use Radlight Filter Mnager to set the priority on that codec higher, say 6001 or even 7000, so that wiondows will continue to call that codec for that type of file in the future. (some player are flaky and don’t pay attention to the filter priorities, but that’s not typical).

Luck!

Hello TopsyTurvy,
I did try opening the AVI in a variety of players. I’m able to watch the other battlestar
galactic shows, raymond, joey etc. But not this
particular episode.... and most of the files available on bearshare have this loki or VTV in the file name. The error I’m getting in my media players is “unsupported codec..." But I’ve tried all kinds of codecs with no luck....

Just today I had to upgrade my windows media player from the 9 series to 10. Now I cannot play any of my .avi MOVIES. I can’t play them in WMP, or real player. I have tried a million different players and I get the same error for them all. I get that error where you can choose to send or not to send the report to microsoft. I choose not to send, and then it shuts down the program. Please help me!!!
