Hey, I got a question.

I downloaded the .avi movie file “The Business” and joined it using hjsplit as instructed.

Here is my question. The joined file could be played in VLC player but only after it opend and said “This AVI file is broken. Seeking will not work correctly. Do you want to try to repair it?" I clicked Yes, and it said “Creating Avi indes..." then once complete it plays in VLC. It does not work however in Windows Media Player. I want to put it on my archos and watch it on my television instead of the computer screen, but that only works with files that can play in Windows Media Player.

Does anyone know what the difference is, and how I can repair the movie permanently so that i can play the repaired version in Windows Media Player and eventually my TV via Archos Video Recorder AV420.

just use hjsplit to combine all the files then with the end file, the 'file' one, just change the extension to .avi This should save having to hange all 7 smaller files.

hiya,

I’ve been reading the posts and found them very helpful, however it does not solve my problem. I have an avi.002 file that will not play in anything; none of the codecs work. after a while i figured out that it must be because it was a split file. (in two parts) however i don’t want the first part i only want the second part. how can i view it without having to download the first part and using hjsplit for it? i hope someone can help me becaus that first part was, like, a thousand MBs

thanks

tryed to download a movie off limewire, and it givies me this error when i try to watch the movie, “Windows Media Player cannot play the file. The Player might not support the file type or might not support the codec that was used to compress the file." I think it might have somthing to do with the codec’s. Because one day I deleted something important, and the next day the wm player for avi. Did not function. My question to you is, what do I do to fix this

Note: it plays mpg’s and other stuff, but not the avi format, which seems to be wwat every movie plays off of.

If you want to watch one segment of a file that has been split using HJSplit I think you can do it by changing the extension from .002(or whatever) to .mpg or .avi.

Try the following. I am using XP, so this all assumes you are using XP. If you are using Vista, I am sure you can do the same thing but will have to find where the controls are.

1) Copy the file that you want to view to another folder.

2) In the new folder, go to the Tools and choose Folder Options....then click on View.

3) Once in View, uncheck the box marked “Hide extensions for known File Types." And then click Apply. This will now change every file in every folder to display the extension.

4) Now go to the file you want to watch which we will say is named Movie.002 Put the cursor at the end of the file, and hit the delete until all that is left is the name Movie. Then immediately type .avi or .mpg and click on the file. This should change the file from a split file back to the movie format. If .avi doesn’t work, try the same thing again using .mpg or wmv etc. That is why you should try this using a copy of the original file in case you need to try it a couple times.

5) You can then go back to the Folder Options and recheck the Hide known file types.

Hope this helps.
