Encoding ASF files to play on Aiptek DV3500 camera

I load videos on my DV4500 all the time with great results. I first edit out the commercials & credits with Ulead Movie Factory to make the file as small as possible. Then run it thru the Arcsoft Converter using the Mpeg4 default settings. Rename the file IMG_0001 (if you’re loading more than one, subsequent files would be IMG_0002, etc).Make sure there are no video files on the camera. Copy the file on to the 100MEDIA file. Works great. I can get 5 half hour shows (minus commercials)on my 1 Gb card.
One thing though: If you edit with the Ulead MF, convert it to a VCD. For some reason, if I save it as a DVD, it comes out in letterbox, which is pretty much unviewable on a 1 1/2 inch screen.

How do you get your aiptek camera to load onto the computer? I have the cord but it will not simply load. What should i do?

Connect the USB cord to the computer. Then click start>my computer. Your Aiptek should show as an unspecified drive. Click on the Aiptek drive. Click on DCIM and it should show the 100MEDIA file. See my post #381 on how to rename the files. You have to drag & drop the file into the 100MEDIA folder.

Hi. I have had an Aiptek DV3500 pocket cam for a while, works great as a poor man’s camcorder, but a few weeks ago it occurred to me that if I could encode video files in the camera’s format I could use it as a portable mini video player.

The camera records ASF files ('IMG_0001.ASF') etc with bitrates of around 200-600kbps. The underlying video codec is 'ISO MPEG-4 Video 1 []' and audio is IMA ADPCM.

I’ve mucked about with VirtualDub, WM Encoder 9 and VIDTOASF.EXE, but can’t crack it, best I get is white noise on the screen and broken audio.

If I could get the ISO MPEG-4 Video 1 [] codec to appear in VirtDub that would help, but it doesn’t. The camera comes with Ulead Video Studio SE and the codec I’m guessing is bundled with the drivers.

Any hints or clever ideas would be much appreciated. This is just an intellectual exercise, but it is starting to drive me mad!

All the best,

Did you run the video file through the Arcsoft converter?
See post #384.

Thank you all very much for your obviously tireless quest to find a solution to this problem. You can add the Mustek DV9300 to the hybrid digicams that the ArcSoft Media Converter works perfectly with. I have had this for about a month and just wondered this week if it were possible to convert files the other way for playback on the camera. This thread got my solution in about as long as it took me to read through it. ;^)

A half hour show minus the commercials is about 22 minutes.
22 X 5 shows = 110 minutes, just a bit over your 90. The difference might be that I edit the video and convert it to a VCD before running it through the arcsoft converter. Also, a lot of the shows that I record are in black & white (Andy Griffith, Lucy), so that might save me a few bytes. I use the default setings on the Arcsoft converter.

I’ve been encoding movies for my Mustek and have gotten all of the movie X2 on my 1GB card at about 850MB. I also used VCD mpegs to start with, but changed the ArcSoft settings to custom with resolution-320x240, VBR-1.5M, FPS-29.97, and Audio BR-128KB. The resolution shows up terrible artifacting on my computer if played back by WMP, but the screen on the camera is so small it isn’t really noticable. With a set of headphones along, it’ll make a nice time-killer whenever I need one.

Hy,
I was hoping that someone could send the guide that spin has on his website to me trancemaster2000united@yahoo.com BECAUSE his website is LOCKED. If anyone has the “Hybrid Camera Guide” or the AIPTEK POCKET DV 5900 guide, it would be greatly appreciated if you could send it to me.

@ Metoo
The clip CLIP0001.zip on PG 12 works on my camera.
HOW DID YOU MAKE IT??
Also i heard spin knows a way of adjusting a setting to make the camera look better when you connect it to a television. CLIP0001 that you updated is very pixelated when watching on television!!

hello guys!!! my dv5700 really played an avi file using AVI FourCC Code Changer.

Original Filename: Test.avi

My DV5700 cam can only play asf file with a fourCC of M4S2. It can also play MP4S.
I used “YASA AVI to MPEG Converter”

How i did it is a bit stupid and an accident... i really didnt convert anything. What i did is just lower the video Frame Size from 640x480 (as its original size) into “352x288 - VCD compliant PAL”.

STEPS:
1) Highlight The avi video file that you want to convert.

2) Choose Output Profile: DivX movie (*.avi)

3) Video Codec: mpeg4

4) Frame Rate: 23.00 FILM

5) Frame Size: 352x288 - VCD compliant PAL

6) Dont touch the audio part. (For me, my file’s audio format was MP3.)

7) Action -=> Start Encoding.

8) After finish encoding, locate your the output file and right click -> uncheck read-only.

9) Run AVI fourCC Code Changer

10) Changes the values. FourCC Description Code: must be “m4s2” (without quotes and as it is).

11) FourCC Used Codec: must be “M4S2” (without quotes and as it is.)

12) Rename Output File from Test.avi (the converted one) to CLIPxxxx.ASF (xxxx are numbers. e.g 0001)

13) Copy CLIPxxxx.ASF to your DV5700.

I hope it works because it really worked on my DV5700 digicam!!!
