Glenn Guest | Hi. Can you give some instructions as to how you got video using WME? Is this WME 9 you are using? I was only ever able to get audio and rubbish video. Thanks.

convert a file template
select avi file you want to convert
give it the mdl001.wmv file on the output
next
select pocket pc for distribution
change it to widescreen 320x240 under video then finish button
select properties conpression and edit button make sure video is set to cbr ISO MPEG4 V1
and audio is set to voice 4bit 8mhz mono
then encode

me Guest | don’t think the bitrate makes alot of difference although I think it degrades the video. you must change the filename to ASF but I guess you already know that

Glenn Guest | I couldn’t get that to work the last time I tried, but I will try again this evening. One application I have only needs video so I might be able to use this.
In the meantime I have rigged a portable VCD player to a Casio pocket TV to watch old episodes of 'Fawlty Towers' in the car!

aj Guest | I have a maxell multifunctional camera and I had some success using XVIDEOCONVERTER and windows media encoder.I use windows media encoder to create a profile and then I use it with XVIDEOCONVERTER to create an asf file.it plays with some square areas in the video but it looks pritty good.the only problem is that when creating the profile the ima adpcm codec doesnt appear as an option so there is no audio yet.I still dont know why the video has some square areas yet.I found some info about panasonic send some software with their cameras to encode video but there is only updates to it in their web site.

David Guest | The encoding software included with the PVR-A1 is less than wonderful. It will encode videos into ASF files using the MP4S video codec at 312 kbps, 25.751 fps, 320x240 (atleast for the video that I did a test on). The audio stream is 1 channel, 96 kbps, 24kHz using the 0x11 = IMA ADPCM codec.
I came across this thread because I am trying to find a nicer way to encode videos for it than using their software. Unfortunately for you, the software is not currently available for download from Mustek.
The problem I am having is that the Windows Media Encoder isn’t allowing me to select any codec other than the Windows Media 7, 8 or 9 codecs and the same ones for audio.

Glenn Guest | I downloaded 3GP and have had more success than before! Got a broken but watchable video to play, but no sound. I am studying the settings for FFMPEG, but would appreciate any help.
I tried altering the 'acodec' setting to “IMA ADPCM” to match the audio codec, but that just creates an error.
I feel I am soooo close to getting this working, yet so far!!

If you want MS ISO MPEG-4 v1 for video, you have to select it manually and it’s only available with CBR (constant bitrate). See my post on 20 Jan 2005 12:37 pm in this thread.

Glenn Guest | Use the 'SD...' experimental profile in 3GP to get a file out for the Aiptek. Remember to rename it to 'img_0001.asf' and copy/move it to your SD card in the Aiptek. It will play a broken video (mine is a clip from 'Planet Of he Apes!') with no sound.
3GP appears to be a GUI or wrapper for FFMPEG and by studying the command line you can start mucking around with the settings. I have tried changing the audio codec to “IMA ADPCM” but I keep getting an error 'Audio codec not recognised' (or thereabouts). Am I being stupid? Does the ADPCM codec not work with FFMPEG?
I am sure that by tweaking the settings for FFMPEG a working video could be encoded, but without sound this is going to be useless.

On the video part... does a program exist that will do a full analysis of the ASF files coming out of the Aiptek? FFMPEG has so many parameters (most of which I don’t fully understand) that it should be possible to tweak it, but only if you knew what it needed tweaked to.
On the audio part... I still can’t figure out why FFMPEG doesn’t 'see' my IMA ADPCM codec as it is installed. Is this a VFW / DirectShow problem again?
This is starting to haunt me at night now!

Sam42222222 Guest | Like the mustek camera, palm and treo handhelds and phones have built in converters and they view video in the the same asf format. Palm Desktop has the converter built in but i think you have to hot sync your pc with your handheld to convert a file.
