Not a Q about the Aiptek DV3500 (please dont kill me!), but rather about a troublesome Vivitar DVR390H. Does anyone know how to get mpeg and wmv movies converted into the correct type of asf file for playback on this thing? have tried various converters and encoders, all of which produce serviceable asf files, but nothing seems to do it for this machine. Is there a specific codec/converter that will do it, or is the machine itself just pony & trap?!
Cheers chaps | |

boston Guest | I have an Aiptek Pocket DV 5100M that was given to me. It uses the same codecs as some of the rest it would seem.
From AVIcodec on a vid from the cam:
File : 1.32 MB (1.32 M , duration: 0:00:07, type: ASF, 1 audio stream(s), quality: 31 %
Video : 1.21 MB, 1459 Kbps, 12.0 fps, 352*288 (4:3), M4S2 = ISO MPEG-4 Video V1, Supported
Audio : 27 KB, 32 Kbps, 8000 Hz, 1 channels, 0x11 = IMA ADPCM, Supported
With a bunch of failed trial and error, I did a search and found this board. And after reading page after page, I found the link to the ArcSoft MediaConveter. I have to say thank you because it worked right off (and saved me many headaches).

Hi. I have had an Aiptek DV3500 pocket cam for a while, works great as a poor man’s camcorder, but a few weeks ago it occurred to me that if I could encode video files in the camera’s format I could use it as a portable mini video player.
The camera records ASF files ('IMG_0001.ASF') etc with bitrates of around 200-600kbps. The underlying video codec is 'ISO MPEG-4 Video 1 []' and audio is IMA ADPCM.
I’ve mucked about with VirtualDub, WM Encoder 9 and VIDTOASF.EXE, but can’t crack it, best I get is white noise on the screen and broken audio.
If I could get the ISO MPEG-4 Video 1 [] codec to appear in VirtDub that would help, but it doesn’t. The camera comes with Ulead Video Studio SE and the codec I’m guessing is bundled with the drivers.
Any hints or clever ideas would be much appreciated. This is just an intellectual exercise, but it is starting to drive me mad!
All the best, Glenn (Belfast)
I was wondering if you could help me out becuase it seems that you know alot about this sort of stuff, I want to download a movie to my sony ericsson K300i, I have anough memory but it still doesnt seem to be working, it downlaods it to my phone but then it doesnt work, it doesnt even give you the option to play, I had thoughts that this may be due to the file type. it says its a WMV, i was wondering if there is anyway to change that so that the 7 second movie works on my phone, thank you in advance and can you email me if you have an answer of even if you dint.

Jerry430 Guest | The Arcsoft converter is awesome. One problem though. I have an Aiptek DV4500. If I convert an unedited file, I get a full size video (320w X 208h). However, when I edit out commercials with either Ulead Movie Factory or Nanocosmos, the resulting video is letterbox (176w x 240h). Obviously, letterbox is waaaayyyy to small on the 1.5 inch screen. Any way to edit and keep the full size?
