Chris Walldorf Guest | I’m mainly a video editor who finishes either uncompressed or DVNTSC but I’ve gotten a job where I have to supply the finished product in the Quicktime5 codec but I’m running QT6. It doesn’t seem to have this option in Pro or another program I’m using called Squeeze. Does this matter? Does my whole system have to be running QT 5 to achieve this?

Regular Rep: 3 Joined: 20 Nov 2004 Posts: 1,239 | The option should appear when you pick export. Make sure you export to DV stream, then click on options to set it to NTSC.

Chris Walldorf Guest | I’m not seeing that as an option which has got me 2nd guessing whether I have QT pro in the 1st place. Under Preferences/Registration it has my QTPro number and it says Quicktime: Quicktime 6 Pro but under About Quicktime Player it says Quicktime 6.5.2 Player version. I tried register online and it sends me to buy it again.
The only options i have under DV Stream are
DV Format: DV, DVCPro, DVCPro50
Video Format: NTSC, PAL
and Audio Rate
Sounds like I need some more options, huh?

For DV stream, wouldn’t picking a DV format of DV, and a video format of NTSC fit the bill?

Chris Walldorf Guest | OK. just read my first post and its worded a little strangely. I’m basically setting files up to be streamed on the internet. I have to encode them with in high and low bandwiths in RealVideo8 and Quicktime 5. They given me bit rates and width/height. For files per clip. (I’m running Mac by the way)
I loaded the clips into Final Cut to do some fades and such and exported them at the correct height/width as MPEG 4’s. At that stage, which I think FCP has the same export options as QTPro, I could not find the QT5 codec option. They were roughly 80 megs each when all was said and done. I then took them into a program called Squeeze that I just got for this job and have never used before. The RealVideo8 files seem fine but I still can’t find any mention of QT5 or any such option in the QT settings. I double checked under DV Stream in QTPro and no luck. Squeeze seems to have way more options than QTPro under its QT settings but there is still no QT5. I also looked under DV Stream under options and it wasn’t there. Any postings on the internet are pre QT6 mentions of 5. If its definitely under your QT settings than I guess for some reason I don’t have Pro?

Regular Rep: 3Joined: 20 Nov 2004 Posts: 1,239 | If I’m reading this right, you’re looking for the 'QuickTime 5 codec'. There is no such codec. QuickTime just comes with a bunch of codecs, but none of them are named 'QuickTime'. To know which codecs are available, pick export Movie to QuickTime Movie, then choose the advanced tab. Under Video pick settings. All the codecs available will be listed in the drop-down menu. At present the most commonly used codec for QuickTime Movies is Sorenson 3. And be sure to check the box “prepare of internet streaming” since it’s your primary purpose.
From what I know Sorenson Squeeze compresses in mpeg-4 or Sorenson 3.
Actually I’m thinking back about this and I’m wondering if you’re talking about the Indeo 5 codec. That’s the only codec with a number 5 that I can think of. QuickTime in Mac OS 9 had it, or could download it automatically, but it’s been discontinued in Mac OS X.
