Hello! Can someone help me whit this error message that i get when i am trying to import a video (MPEG-file) in Windows Movie Maker both 1 and 2.;

The file C:\Documents and Settings\Tarjei\Mine dokumenter\Mine dokumenter\VIDEO\71gr. Nord.mpg cannot be imported because the codec required to play the file is not installed on your computer. If you have already tried to download and install the codec, close and restart Windows Movie Maker, and then try to import the file again.

Greetings from Tarjei.

I’ve tried system restore. it doesn’t work for me either and i’ve changed my settings so that windows automatically dl the codec but its still the same.

It did not work for me either. Are there any other solutions to this codec issue?

Please ignore my previous post. I did not notice that there were about 6 pages (I came via google). I fixed my problem by making sure all the codecs listed in Windows Movie Maker were checked — > Tools>Options>Compatibility. I found this solution somewhere on page 2 or 3 of this thread.

I hope this helps.

neusted wrote: Hi all,
I used to have the same problem. Then i installed k-lite and it fixed the import problem. However, another problem arises - i can’t see the video on the large window. So it’s pretty much useless still. Even after i uninstalled k-lite and divx (which was installed before k-lite), i could still import the files, but it still doesn’t come out in the video pane. Any help? Thanx smiley

I have the EXACTproblem. I installed ACE Codecs so that I can import more videos — it solved it, but now I can’t see the storyboard at all!

Ok, heres how to fix it. It worked for me. Install either a codec pack or even the seperate codec it wants. In tools/options/compatibilty on movie maker make sure the external decoder for your codec is selected, restart Movie Maker and walla it should work

Am new to movie maker and am having this same codec problem. my warantee with windows & dell is over so am on my own to ry to resolve. have downloaded codec packages and so forth. no luck. do not want to do a systems restore because I have no idea if this ever worked before and wouldn’t neccessarily be restoring a good thing. Has anyone actually found a product that resulted in a fix?

I read on another forum dedicated to this issue that reinstalling windows media player can cause problems, also that continuing to download all these codec bundles can be problematic... 1. Is there a complete converting AND editing movie software package out there that would just bypass windows? 2. Do you download Windows Media Player to reinstall or use the recovery disc?

PLEASE FOLLOW WHAT SUM DUDE SAID!! HERE IT IS:

i have found what everyone here has been looking for. google the term “Theorica Divx ;-) Codecs”. you’ll find a free package of all the codecs for your system to make anything and everything work. once you install it youll get a small pop up window with some odd info on it. JUST X OUT THE WINDOW. if you hit ok it will uninstall all the work you just did and youll have to do it again. no harm done, just annoying. another word of advice the file “ffdshow.ax” or something along those lines will cause movie maker not to work. use your windows search to find that exact file. once found delete all the components labelled “ffdshow” and everything should work like a swiss watch. happy movie making ..

OMG!! AND IT WORKS FOR ME!! PRAISE SUM DUDE! WOHOOOOO! IM SO VERY VERY HAPPY! OMG...I’VE BEEN WORKING THOSE CODEC’S FOR DAYS....OMG! MY SUFFERING HAS ENDED! LOL... IM SO HAPPY....SO HAPPY...THAT...IM GOING CRAZY!

Tnx a lot sum dude...here’s a bow for you! m(__)m =)

-i hope you will try this one too guys...and i hope it will work out just fine....omigash...im going to cry...T_T

dude ummm. system restore is not a magic fix and not everyone is willing to set their computer back to a previous date and lose information, also system restore is really buggy and replaces *important* system files i dont use it for these reasons

and p.s. you really cant spell
