It’s simple. Go on tools, options, compatibility then click on the end tab and check all the boxes. Please, for your sake, don’t continue downloading endless codecs. Your probably downloading the right codec numerous times, but at long as that box is unchecked, movie maker isn’t looking for it. It’s a simple fix to an annoying problem.

“C:\Documents and Settings\Katie\Desktop\Wolf’s Rain - 01.avi could not be imported. The required codec was not downloaded automatically because the Download codecs automatically check box is not selected in the Options dialog box."
Help would be greatly appreciated!!!

culturemp3 Guest | this guy “awesome” is absolutely right, all you have to do is download the codec v.1.1.0, install it and it works fine!!
no need to download packs and ton of codecs. just that one will be enough.

That solution DOESN’T WORK FOR ME. This error has always occured, I NEED A DIFFERENT SOLUTION.
Don’t get angry because you can’t help EVERYONE. People like me have always had the problem and can’t simply restore the settings.

guest-dangerous Guest | I recorded a short length of lightning film using my olypus C-50 digicam. Watched it a few times through RealPlayer and saved it as a condensed file via a right click option and now the file which I saved as lightning which transformed into a row of numbers can’t be found.

Your explanation does not work because this error has occured before, and has always happened for every time I’ve used this program this and my computer is less than a week old. System restore does nothing to sooth the problem at all, and it would not matter how early I went because it has always been like this.
Does anyone else have any other solutions?

It should solve your problems
Installing the Divx codec Pack as well should help

Zook Guest | OK I had the problem with only some of my .avi files. now for the files, i went and got this program: “Riva FLV Encoder." it will take any video file and turn it into about any other video file. try it, i turned them into an mpg and they work fine now. try it works. Zook T. Dribit.
