whateverrrrrrrrrrrrsssssclever Guest | bob, what a snotty post dude, your suggestion sounds more like a command, not to mention your idea is way overkill for such a simple codec problem...
do you always talk to people like that?? like in real life?

guys I kno how to fix this problem. ok first step go to www.wmplugins.com and scroll down to wher it says most popular plug-ins in blue link. Yes it is the first one XVid Codec, click on it. Finish the download thingy and just leave it alone. Now try to import video file. If it still doesn’t work on movie maker go to tools/options and check the box to where it says download codecs automaticly.
If that doesn’t work I do not kno what will, cause it works for me T.T
I tried to install it, but I keep getting the message that C:/Windows/system32/xvid.ax
An error occurred while trying to replace the existing file
And no matter what I do it keeps Happening. What am I doing wrong?

tonyBEEE Guest | STOP, EVERYBODY! Listen. As Gregg said;
“just managed to fix it on mine. make sure the movie will play (or if not go download ffshow this should sort out most things) then go in to movie maker. click tools/options. go to the last tab and make sure that all of the codecs have a tick by them. now try importing the file again hope this works”
This is a very common problem. Codecs cannot fix this. Make certain that you have all of them checked.

mike2121 Guest | I am trying to use AOA DVD Ripper to copy my DVD’s onto my computer. I convert it into the .avi format which has Xvid or Divx encoded into it. I am pretty sure I have download the DivX and Xvide Codecs on my computer several times, but whenever I go to the tool/options and click upload all codecs automatically and I check any new codec boxes nothing happens, the video still will not import. I have a Divx Demux Codec and some other strange ones, but no Xvid Codec does not show up when I got to Tools/options-even after I have downloaded it from http://www.xvidmovies.com/codec/
Is there something on my computer/ internet connection that is stopping WMM from recognizing the codec and knowing is there. Thanks.

julwgmz Guest | Hi. I’m having the same problem, only with audio. The audio in the videos I import works fine, but whenever I try to add music or something on a video, it doesn’t work. Any help? I know it might have something to do with my audio codecs but I don’t have a clue how these things work.

BoB. Guest | avi cannot be imported because the codec required to play the file is not installed on your computer. If you have already tried to download and install the codec, close and restart Windows Movie Maker, and then try to import the file again.

jduy Guest | Hello Bob
if you format windows so NO programs are installed avi files will NOT play
so your system restore theory does not work
i formatted my pc and prior to installing anything at all besides xp the avis would not work
divx avi codec makes them work... but not very well
i am looking for something better

Daz Lees Guest | What codec do i need if i am using movie maker to play mpeg files. I can get it onto the movie maker but it only has sound meaning im missing the video codec. I can play the full file in windows media player, both sound and video. I have downloaded the theorica divx ;-) codec package and this has allowed me to get passed the message “cannot open because correct codec not installed” but need to actually see the video for obvious reasons. Any help would be greatly appreciated because i need it to create a movie from a load of old camcorder stuff, recently transferred to dvd, for my sisters wedding.
Cheers
