flustrated Guest | "HELLO!!!!!!!!
I HAVE FOUND A WAY BUT IT SEEMS EVERYBODY IS TO LAZY TO READ “ALL” THE POSTS....BECAUSE IF THEY DID, THEY WOULD HAVE TRIED MY WAY...Sorry getting off, but I just dont understand why people I saying that they havent found a solution, somebody please posts if this did not work for them....
AS I SAI
“I have found a way. Go to your windows start menu then to programs, accesories, system tools, and then click on “system restore”. After this just choose the date before this error had occured.
Note: If you had installed any new programs after this error you will loose them but not the information you saved on them. Example: I had lost my iTunes program but when I reinstalled I still had all my songs on the program. So dont worry about loosing any vital information."
Instead of killing youself trying to find codec, do this.....It worked very well for me....
NOw I hope I dont see anymore “But still no answer”....I have one!!! Use it!!!"
I tried it, but the system restore was disabled.

inteigencia Guest | I was, like many other ppl on this forum having trouble importing avi files to WMM, where in the past this wasn’t a problem. I thought I’d imported a file succefully, but when I dragged it onto the timeline, I only got audio. SO I tried re-importing it and I got the imfamous line:
<i>C:\.avi cannot be imported because the codec required to play the file is not installed on your computer. If you have already tried to download and install the codec, close and restart Windows Movie Maker, and then try to import the file again.</i>
Now, the file played perfectly in WMP, and from what I’ve managed to learn about codec, I figured, it should then work in WMM as well. Apparently, NOPE.
Here’s where I think the problem was: WMM was looking in the wromg place for the codec. You basically have to fuckin' hold the program’s hand and guide it to the right one. So, since I was trying to import Xvid files, I downloaded the Xvid codec pack,
http://www.softpedia.com/progDownload/Koepi-XviD — build — -beta-Download-3178.html
Now it’s finally working. I’m not saying this is the solution for everyone. Just because we have what seems like the same problem, the cause may be different, so the solution will be too! Good luck, and don’t give up!

Hey, I solved the problem on my PC. Baisically I was getting the error message for this AVI video, but it was really encoded in Divx. You guys should really check if the same goes for you. Try opening a file that you KNOW is AVI, not just because it ends in ".avi”. This is a common mistake. Second, in order to be able to open and edited video encoded in Divx or Xvid or something else, you need their codecs, preferably the latest. You can get a nice codec pack with many codecs that you might need here at http://www.filehippo.com/download_klite_codec_pack.html which is a trusted site that I update almost all my software everyday from (www.filehippo.com). Or you can get the Divx only codecs called Theorica Divx that sum dude posted. Or you can get the latest Ace Mega 6 Codec pack at http://www.free-codecs.com/download/ACE_Mega_CoDecS_Pack.htm. Speaking of this site, www.free-codecs.com should have all the codecs, video or sound and such, that you’ll ever need. Bottom line, you need the latest codecs and you must make sure whether the file is truely AVI or is it just looks AVI.

Brittney Snape Guest | I just solved the problem for me!
First: download K-Lite Codec Pack.
Second: Open Windows Movie Maker.
Third: Try importing the clips again.
It should work. If not, oh well. I’ve been working on this problem all night. Now, I can continue making my music videos.
Happy Video Making!

withoutachoice Guest | I did it!
I tried going to tools>>options>>compatibility (my movie maker is in portuguese so I don’t know if the name is exactly that, but it’s the last section and has something to do with filters)
so, in my movie maker there was only one box unchecked. First I tried unchecking all the boxes, didn’t work, then I tried checking all the boxes (including the one that wasn’t checked in the first place), then I closed movie maker and opened it again and it worked. yay!
the box that wasn’t unchecked was ffdshow MPEG-4 Video Decoder.
hope it helps | |
