carrot Guest | Are you on a PC or a Mac?
If you’re on a PC, did you run and install the file you downloaded? (It should be named XviD-1.1.3-28062007.exe). Then did you try playing the movie in Windows Media Player? What error message(s) are you getting?
Other possibilities:
File is truncated: use Media Player Classic to play it.
Wrong or misnamed file:
Use gspot (http://www.headbands.com/gspot) or avicodec (http://avicodec.duby.info) to determine what codec it really uses.
Also try VLC Media player (http://www.videolan.org) which is an all-in-one player (swiss-army-knife-style) with lots of built-in codecs (but obviously not all of them).
It could be a fake. If that’s the case, it most likely won’t be recognized by any player or the diagnostic tools mentioned above. You could try opening it with winrar to see if it’s an archive or a cd burning or mounting program to see if it’s a cd image.
If you’re on a Mac, try MPlayer OS X (google it), or the xvid component for QuickTime (look in the download section of this site)

carrot Guest | File size means nothing. The MPAA and RIAA have been dumping huge fake files on file sharing networks for years. Like I said, I’d use gspot or avicodec to make sure.
If you’re unconvinced, look at the first few bytes in a hex editor. If it were truly an AVI you’d see a string RIFF AVI LIST at the start.
