Regular Rep: 0 Joined: 24 Jun 2005 Posts: 380 OFFLINE | If you’re talking about d/l-ed films, that’s your problem, but I assume your not since you’re clearly not new to this sort of thing.
If you’re talking about DVD films, some people quite arbitrarily find their picture is zoomed in. Although its not always obvious (especially without text such as subtitles which suddenyl don’t show completely any more), it has the effect of making everything look twice as grainy. There were a couple of fixes on this site... I’ll have a look and post back.
I can’t think of anything else that might be causing it off the top of my head, but again, I’ll post back if I think of anything.

1. You might want to check this site from Microsoft out if its a problem with zooming:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/knowledgecenter/mediaadvice/0026.aspx#Question3
2. There are a couple of instances of people using recent versions of PowerDVD which detereorate for no apparent reason. Their problems seem to disappear when they change to InterDVD or some other software. You could download a couple of trial versions to give that a go.
3. Some people found that software problems were fixed by a system restart, particularly if they had just backed up a DVD - to DVDR or to Hard drive.
4. If you’re using DVDShrink to backup films, causing the above problem, try turning off DirectX support in the configuration menu of DVDShrink; setting it to “Built-in software rendering” or whatever its called. Also, try updating to the latest version of DirectX (currently 9.0c?)
That’s pretty much it for the mo. I’ll post anything else as I think of it.

1. Download QuickSFV. Then, use the .sfv file with that to check that the file is complete and uncorrupted.
2. Download Daemon Tools. Use that to mount the .cue file, and you should be able to use the contents of the image.
There are plenty of posts around this site regarding how to do the above, so just look
