Hi, I’ve been pulling my hair out looking for a good MPEG-1/MPEG-2 codec/filter to play simple mpg files. Whatever I am playing them with now combs like crazy on the monitor or is very dark as it keeps turning the brightness down in my overlay control.

www.hotcodecs.com is not a source for codecs. I am not sure if it was placed here as spam or if an honest mistake was made by the poster.

Just wanted you to know so as not to waste your time.

Speaking of players, I use RealPlayer, and I have found it plays most everything I want it to. You can download a free version at:

http://www.real.com/player/?src=realplayer

Note the free player icon is found in upper right corner. It advertises that it plays all the major media types. To get it to play all the media types you have to click on tools, then preferences, then content and media types. Check the ones you want it to play. I checked all of them.

the best site for codec downloading is www.free-codecs.com. I believe they also have several useful utilities to download, which may or may not include the G-Spot Codec Information Appliance. This is what you need to tell you what codec a video or audio file is encoded with. If its not up there, their URL is www.headbands.com/gspot/

That should pretty much sort out any problems. Anything else, just post.
